George A. Schott, 90, of
Lake City, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. A memorial service was held Monday, March
24, 2008 at the Lake City Union Church, with Rev. Betty Weidert
officiating. Burial was in the
Carnarvon Cemetery in Carnarvon, Iowa.
George Alfred Schott was
born June 28, 1917 in Sioux City, Iowa to parents Alfred and Marie (Sherwood)
Schott. After graduating from high
school, George attended the Chicago School of Printing and Mergenthal Linotype, and completed his apprenticeship
with Gaston Printers in Ottawa, Illinois.
On October 28, 1940, George was married to Pearl Brinker in Carnarvon,
Iowa. From 1943 to 1945 George served
in the United States Navy, where he earned seven stars while serving aboard
the USS Willoughby in the South Pacific where he served in the battles of
Leyte and Samar which ended the war with Japan. After his military service, George began
working at Illinois Office Supply where he worked for 43 years before
retiring in 1980. In 1984 George and
Pearl moved to Lake City, Iowa. George was a member of the
V.F.W. Post #1899 in Lake City and was a lifetime member of the American
Legion in Ottawa, Illinois. He was
also a member of the Lake City Union Church. George is survived by his
sister, Virginia Norgard of Lake City; nephews,
Alfred Norgard of Lafayette, LA, Charles Norgard of Lake City and Edward Lowderbaugh
of Taveras, FL; and numerous great-nieces and
great-nephews. He was preceded in
death by his parents; wife, Pearl Schott in 1988; sister, Sarah (Schott) Lowderbaugh-Chaplin and niece, Linda (Lowderbaugh)
