Ross Samuelson

Lake City – Ross Samuelson, 73, died Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Hospice Care Center in Edgewater, Florida. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 3rd at the Lake City Union Church with Rev. Betty Weidert officiating and burial was in the Lanesboro Cemetery.

 

Ross Roy Samuelson was born January 20, 1937 at Clay Center, Kansas to Arthur and Eva (Wolfgang) Samuelson.  He attended rural grade school in Marshall County, Kansas and graduated from Beattie High School in Beattie, Kansas in 1954.  He graduated from Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska in 1958 and completed his Masters from the University of South Dakota.  In 1957 he was married to Judy Daffer, to this union three children were born; Lori, Steve and Mike.  On April 1, 1977, he was married to JoAnn Vincent-Winter.  He taught at Essex, Iowa from 1958 to 1961 and from 1962 to 1994 taught in the Southern Cal Community School district where he was a Jr. High and High School science teacher.  He was also a successful Head Girl’s Basketball coach with state appearances in 1965 & 1966, and he was the Head Girl’s Track Coach with many appearances at State and the Drake Relays.

 

Ross was a member of the Masonic Fraternity of Beattie, KS for 52 years, and a member of the Lake City Union Church.

 

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He was a life long learner and teacher.  He loved crossword puzzles, journaling his day and golfing.

 

Ross is survived by his wife, JoAnn of Lake City, IA; children, Lori Samuelson of California, Steve (Shawn) Samuelson of Germany, Mike (Erin) Samuelson of Marshall, MN, Daryl (Sally) Winter of Lake City, IA, Randy (Diane) Winter of Orlando, FL, and Cindy (Jeff) Jorgensen of Ames, IA; 18 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Rita Samuelson, Nola (Harry) Clow, and Janet Zebley; and brother-in-law, Jim Vincent.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lowell Samuelson; mother-in-law, Mildred Vincent; father-in-law, Harold Vincent; and grandson, Reese Daniel.
