Ronald Owen, 51, died March
26, 2008, in Ames, Iowa. Services were
Monday, March 31, 2008 at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City, Iowa, with Pastor
Wayne Pfannkuch officiating. Burial was in the Lake City Cemetery. Ronald Dean Owen was born
June 14, 1957, in Lake City, Iowa to parents Robert Dean and Marilyn Mae
(McCarty) Owen. He graduated from Lake
City High School in 1975. Dr. Owen received
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science in 1979 and a Doctor of
Veterinary Medicine in 1991 from Iowa State University. He joined the United States Department of
Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS) directly from
veterinary school as a Veterinary Medical Officer inspecting slaughter
establishments in Iowa through the Perry, Marshalltown and Des Moines
offices. He ended his career with FSIS
as a Supervisory Veterinary Medical Officer in June of 1999 when he
transferred to the USDA, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Center
for Veterinary Biologics. Dr. Owen
held the position of Veterinary Medical Officer, Senior Biologics
Specialist. Dr. Owen’s
work involved the protection and promotion of American agriculture through
inspection and compliance regulatory activities. Ron enjoyed helping his
friends, from construction to landscaping and was always available to lend a
hand. He also enjoyed sports,
especially Iowa State University and Drake University Sports. Ron is survived by his
mother, Marilyn of Lake City, brother, Dan of Carroll, and close friend, Jeananne Celander. He was preceded in death by his father,
Robert, and brother, Tim. |
