Hester Crosswait,
101, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. Funeral service was held Friday, May 30,
2008 at Lampe Funeral Home
in Lake City with Pastor David Glavin
officiating. Burial was in the Lake
City Cemetery.
Hester Mary Crosswait was born July 9, 1906 in Lake City, Iowa to Ernest and Lyda
(Boyd) Crosswait.
After graduating in 1925, she attended the Iowa State Teacher’s
College in Cedar Falls for 2 years.
She was a teacher for the following schools: Larabee,
3 years, LeMars 10 years, Boone 2 years, Des Moines
1 year, and Lake City from 1945 until her retirement in 1972. Hester was a member of the Alpha Delta
Kappa teacher’s sorority, Monday Club, B.P.W., Historical Society, and Entre
Nous Music Club, and a traveling club that had taken her all over the United
States, to Hawaii and to Ireland. She
also served on the Care Committee at Shady Oaks for over 20 years and was an
organist at the Baptist Church from 1945 to 2002.
Hester is survived by her
nephew, Gene (Marlene) Osborne of Texas, niece, Marjorie (Harry) Hale of
Ames, several great-nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents,
brother, Burton Crosswait, sister, Addie Osborne,
and sister, Virginia Baker.
