Delores JoAnn Fischer was born June 8, 1932, to Raymond and Thelma (Hardy) Fischer in Lake City. Delores grew up on the family farm on “Fischer Hill” southwest of Rockwell City. As an only child, Delores spent a lot of time playing with her cousins who became her best friends. She went to country school, later attending Westview High School in Lake City.
In 1953, Delores married Charles Ford and they raised their family in Lake City.
At a young age, Delores worked at the “Palace of Sweets” in Rockwell City. She later worked for Dr. Earl Rock and McCrary Rost Clinic in Lake City. She eventually worked at the District Clerk of Courts office in Rockwell City until her retirement. Her retirement was short lived, however, as she enrolled in massage therapy school in Fort Dodge. After graduation, she opened her massage therapy and reflexology business, “Body & Sole” in Lake City where she spent the next 12 years relieving many people’s aches and pains. She also incorporated her skills into her hospice volunteering.
Delores and Chuck loved company and were always happy to have their children’s friends at the house, blaring music. They also hosted long-term guests who needed a helping hand. Delores will be remembered for her kindness, her concern for others, her love of shopping, and her sense of fun.
Delores passed away at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City on October 21, 2021, with her daughter beside her.
Delores is survived by her son Dave (Cindy) Ford and daughter Vicki Tasler; grandchildren: Shane (Crystal) Ford, Brett Ford, Jamie Stone and Jordan (Jereme) Waters; step-grandson Anthony Tasler; great-grandchildren: Kennedie, Lauren, Nolan, Kameron, and Gabby Ford, and Jasey and Jaggar Waters; great-great-granddaughter Kamille; sister-in-law Rose Ford; and close family friend Arlene Bernardoni.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Charles; step-son Michael Ford; son-in-law Randy Tasler; and beloved great-granddaughter Mackenzie Ford.
As per her request, there will be no services held. A private family burial will be held at a later date in the Lake City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to: University of Iowa Center for Advancement
