Joan Nelson Robinson, 99, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2021 at the Fayetteville Health and Rehab Center in Fayetteville, AR. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Smith; son, Walter S. Robinson; daughter-in-law, Carol Van Scyoc; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herb M. Nelson and Margaret Basye Nelson; son-in-law, Pierce Smith; and grandson, Aidan Robinson.
Joan was born on January 14, 1922, in Humboldt, Iowa. She attended Junior College in Boone, Iowa and then the school of nursing at the University of Iowa, graduating in June of 1945 as an R.N.
Joan married Walter S. Robinson, Jr. in 1943. Most of her married life was spent on a farm outside of Lake City and on a ranch in Arkansas. The highlight of her life was the birth of her daughter and her son. After her divorce in 1978, she returned to college and in 1983 graduated from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock with a B.S. in Education.
Joan returned to Lake City, Iowa in 1983 to be near her roots. And then she moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2004 to be closer to her daughter and son.
As per Joan’s request, she will be buried in her hometown of Lake City, Iowa. Lampe and Powers Funeral Home in Lake City have been entrusted with the arrangements.
