Auburn – Elma Green, 98, died Monday, March 18, 2019 at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Elma Harriet (Brown) Green was born on November 16, 1920 to Charles and Elma (Willert) Brown. She graduated from Auburn High School in 1938 and then went to work for the editor of the Auburn Enterprise. She later bought the paper and published it herself until selling it in 1946. On June 28, 1942, Elma married Murnice Green at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn and together they celebrated 70 years of marriage before Murn’s death in 2013. The couple started farming in January 1947 and farmed for 44 years before moving into Auburn in 1991. They enjoyed spending winters in Texas from 1991-1998. Elma was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn and the Ladies Aid group as well as the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting afghans and other handwork and doing genealogy.
Elma is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Tom) Quinn of Reinbeck and Mary Jane Green of Boone, grandchildren, Lisa (Greg) Kiene of Janesville and Eric Quinn of Estherville, and great-grandchildren, Chloe and Joseph Kiene of Janesville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Murn, parents, Charles and Elma Brown, and sister, Pearl Ringgenberg.
