Lake City—Sharyn Schleisman, 73, died surrounded by her family and friends on Friday, November 30, 2018 at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City. Celebrant was Father Lynn Bruch and burial will be held at a later date.
Sharyn Kay Schlitter-Schleisman was born November 5, 1945 in Waukon, Iowa to Harold and Grace (Hammon) Schlitter. She graduated from Waukon High School. Sharyn married Kenneth Schleisman on April 24, 1965.
After high school Sharyn worked in a restaurant and grocery store in Waukon. The grocery store is where she met Kenny and after they were married they moved to Lake City where they lived on their farm for 53 years. Sharyn worked several places in Lake City over the years including The Hill Top, Casey’s, Stewart Memorial Hospital, the hardware store, Watters, the Farmer’s Co-Op and she also sold Mary Kay.
Sharyn enjoyed many hobbies such as Monday Club, reading, volunteering at the hospital gift shop, gardening, sewing, fishing, and spending time with her family. Her flower gardens, children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Sharyn was an avid gardener, great cook, loving mother and grandmother.
Married for 52 years, Sharyn is survived by her son Kevin and his wife Melodie of Lake City, Iowa, daughter Kelly Reid and her partner Mike Sullivan of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, daughter Kara Ellis and her husband Thadd of Waukee, Iowa and four grandchildren Allie Reid, Andrew Reid, Abby Ellis and Austin Ellis. Also surviving is her sister Della from Lansing, Iowa, her bothers Dean Schlitter of Waukon, Iowa and Harlan Schlitter of Lansing, Iowa. Sharyn is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenny, her parents Harold and Grace, her brother Keith, and sisters Carol and Marie.
Mom, I can never say goodbye to you, because I could never bear the pain. Instead, I say I love you, Mom; until we meet again.
