Auburn – Maxine Stewart, 91, died at her home on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn with Rev. Charles Bettin officiating and burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Auburn.
Maxine Valentine (Pierce) Stewart was born on February 14, 1926 on a farm Southeast of Spirit Lake, Iowa to Clarence and Myrtle (Kelly) Pierce. She graduated from Auburn Public School and on February 15, 1945 Maxine married Willard Stewart in Rockwell City. Maxine worked for her father grading eggs at Pierce Produce until 1960, she then worked at Watters Hardware and Auburn Enterprise for several years before purchasing and operating Stewart Hardware Store in Auburn until her retirement in 1986. Maxine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Auburn.
Maxine is survived by her sons Larry (Corrine) Stewart of Auburn and Tommy Stewart of Carroll, daughter-in-law Judy Stewart of Foreman, AR, grandchildren Janine (Patrick) La Duke of Gretna, NE, Teresa (Todd) Bettin of Lake View, IA, Kurtis (Sarah) Stewart of Omaha, NE, Shawn Stewart of Carroll, IA, Tommy Grafft, and Sonya Grafft, and many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, sisters Judy (Gail) Glasnapp of Roland and JoAnn Boss of Little Rock, AR, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Willard in 1981, son Michael Stewart, sister Delores Pierce, brother Morris Pierce, sister-in-law Laura Pierce and brother-in-law Rick Boss.
