Lake City – Rich Mohr, 79, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 10, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Richard Dean Mohr was born on December 30, 1937, in Breda, Iowa, to Lester and Dorothy (Hamilton) Mohr. He graduated from high school in 1956 and then attended Commercial Extension in Omaha. On October 24, 1964, Rich married Susan Hobart in Rockwell City, Iowa. Rich tried his hand at various jobs throughout his life including John Deere mechanic, carpenter, police officer and police chief, fireman, donut maker at Sparky’s, clerk at Casey’s, car salesman, part time school bus driver, Country Club manager, and even a short order cook. Rich couldn’t decide which one he liked best, but touched the lives of many people no matter what he was doing.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Dorothy Mohr, brother Gary Mohr, father- and mother-in-law Ralph and Neva Hobart, brothers-in-law Melvin and Maynard Hobart and Roger Snyder, sisters-in-law Alex and Fran Hobart, grandparents Ed and Veronica Mohr and Chet and Ruby Hamilton.
Left to continue his legacy are his wife Susan of Lake City, children Veronica Carr of Prosper, TX, Ric (Tracy Bennett) of Sioux City, IA, Trish (Marv) Wingett of Omaha, NE, Karla (Larry) Sonksen of Curlew, IA, Laura (Terry) McDonald of Warner Robins, GA, grandchildren Joshua (Erin) Carr, Torrence (Kim) Mohr, Hannah, Gracelyn and Makenzie Wingett and Cameron McDonald, great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Jaycie Mohr and Caleb and Abigail Carr and foster son Kris Miller. Also left to celebrate his life are his sisters Leta Millis, Janet Snyder and Peg (Lowell) Stoolman and brothers Ron (Nancie) Mohr, Gene (Della) Mohr and Dave (Jan) Mohr.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
